Verses that deal with judging
We are told by most pastors and priests that we should not judge. Is this true? Is this what the Bible says?
In this article and others, we will explore the popular concepts of what modern-day churches preach and see if they are Christian or not.
Listed below are some of the verses that deal with judging.
(Lev 19:15) Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
(Num 35:24) Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:
(Deu 25:1) If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.
Just in these three verses it is quite plain that we should judge. Our judgement should not be unrighteous, we should judge between the slayer and revenger, and we should judge when there is a controversy between men.
(Pro 17:15) He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.
(Pro 21:3) To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
In Proverbs 17:15 we are told about bad judgement. This is not to be construded that we should not judge. This verse is about bad judgement.
Then, in Proverbs 21:3 we are to judge as this is more acceptable to God than sacrifice.
(Isa 1:17) Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
Part of doing well is to judge. Therefore, the opposite is true, too, when we don’t judge. We are to judge the fatherless and the widow. How can we know if someone needs help unless we judge them? When we judge righteously, we, as a nation, eliviate the burn that was placed on the fatherless or widow.
(Jer 5:28) They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
Here, God is talking about the rich who judge wrong – that their deeds are of the wicked. Here, they are condemed for not judgeing. This, by the way, is not to be construded that all rich people are like this. This is another misconception that the church spreads – that somehow, just being rich make you a bad or unrigheour person. For we know that a person from any economic class can be heartless to others. The rich are pointed out because, by implication, they have more power and influence and are probably in a political leadership over the people.
(Luk 12:57) Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?
For those who think the only thing we should go by is the New Testament, they are wrong – but that would take a book to cover. However, even in the New Testament, we read the words of Christ and He says we should judge. “…why even of yoruselves judge ye not what is right?”
(Joh 7:24) Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
We should judge and we should judge righteously.
(Rom 16:17) Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
The only way we can know of people causing divisions is by judging.
(1Co 6:1) Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?
(1Co 6:2) Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
We are told that we will be judgeing the world, and since we are to do this great thing, we will be doing the small things, too. So, today we should judge things that occure in our everyday lives (the smallest of matters).
(1Co 14:29) Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
Christians are to judge and they should judge righteously!
